Montezuma Well
Montezuma Well is a limestone sinkhole in central Arizona, but it’s much more than that. It’s a constant source of water in the desert, for one. The Yavapai people believe they emerged into this world from within the Well. It is their ancestor. It reveals some of the history of previous civilizations. It harbors a unique ecology and is a source of medicinal herbs. But mostly, it’s a place of such awe-inspiring beauty and energy that it forces you to listen.
Of course, my mom is also a source of awe-inspiring beauty and energy, and you’ll hear her voice along with the sounds of the Well.
If you ever come through Phoenix, I’d love to take you up here for a picnic.

I have to visit this place.
Nicely captured – I really felt at least something of why it is so charged.

Hi Cheryl, this is Glenna….thanks for sharing. It was a beautiful break to a cloudy cold day. BTW, how sweet of you to reference your mother in an equally beautiful way. I await those days with my own daughter

Sometimes I forget that you live in the desert. There are lots of tinkling streams in England, land of perpetual rain, so I have to make a real mental effort to think that Arizona is not like that and that such a stream means something different over there. That was really lovely and if I ever make it to the US again (I once spent 3 months living in a tent in New Jersey), I’ll be round your house in a jiffy.
