Couple of things.

  1. I have shamelessly backdated this post to the date I shot it and would have published it except that when I got to the art gallery last night I found my partner had removed our internet connection temporarily - she needed to troubleshoot equipment at her home. So I’d have published from there, but couldn’t. Continuing the spirit of NaVloPoMo, it’s okay to backdate this post because I DID make this video on December 7.

  2. This kind of continues my confrontation of fears thing. I made this video while I was really angry. Normally I wouldn’t do such a thing. And then I’d usually delete it because I don’t want to show that side of myself. Certainly wouldn’t post it. My reason is not wanting to put that negativity out there. But I’ve realized that means I’m not presenting myself as a whole person. So here is me angry, not raging angry, or over the top, but angry.

  3. We really do have a state law that prohibits smoking within a reasonable distance from building entrances, and that distance is defined as 20 feet. After researching the law, it seems the place of employment is supposed to remove ashtrays from areas where smoking is illegal. But I realized from watching my footage that there is an ashtray here. So it’s probably not the employee’s fault, but the institution’s fault for providing an ashtray where there shouldn’t be one. I’ll be letting them know about it - I go to this area so regularly that I can’t let this one go. Someone’s always out there smoking when I walk by, and it nearly always triggers an asthma attack for me.

    I’m with you!

Smoking was banned here in the UK in public restaurants and pubs and clubs and cafes etc (there’s some exemptions, I believe) on July 1st this year. It’s so wonderful to be able to eat or drink coffee without getting a lungful of someone else’s crap.

I was pretty ill myself beginning in 2001 and smoke in public places was too much for a man in my condition. I was brought up in a household of heavy smoking, so I’ve probably got passive damage regardless. So get them out in that designated area. All they need is an umbrella and things will be just dandy.

you call that a rant!? I am going to have to show you the proper way to rant on video….you teach me, I teach you, this is how the web works! (I am just playing of course, I can’t stand smoke either, I believe they have the right to smoke, but nothing wrong in setting areas… )

Oh, BooBoo! First of all, that is seriously F-ed up! Second of all, you’re cute when you’re angry!

I was raised in a heavy smoking household and I was a bartender in New York for many years AND I have relatives who have died from lung cancer so I’m just waiting for my cancer-from-second-hand-smoke to kick up. Grr… I hate smoke. I hate smoking I hate it I hate it I hate it! But if I were asthmatic on top of all that? I’d go Video Ninja on those lawbreakers!

I was actually working the night NYC passed the ban on smoking in restaurants. At 12:01am with great relish and a song in my heart I cleared the bar of ashtrays and sent smokers outside in mid-cigarette! The next night the ashtrays were back and I reported them every day until the city came and fined their ass. I have zero guilt about this. I still report bars who break this law. I’m sort of a maniac about it.

    You. Go. Girl.
