I think the sky was more interesting than the possible terrorist threat of nuclear explosion.

@shelbinator – that’s McDowell road, heading from Scottsdale into Phoenix, passing by the lava rock amphitheater that’s just west of the national guard property at 52nd St.
@aaron – thank you so much. I like your work so much that when you like mine I want to jump & shout.
This reminds me. I have yet to do the vloggin-whilst-driving thing. How do you do that without crashing? Drive with one hand carefully, or perch the camera on something?
@Lauren – I have two methods. The first is just as you described – I drive carefully with one hand, which I can do because I have an automatic transmission car. The other way, if you have a flat-bottomed camera, is to get a sticky pad for the dashboard and set the camera on it. I guess you could also get a gorillapod and attach the camera to the car with it.
Awesome! I’m sorry we weren’t able to get together while I was out there. I just got back on Monday, and I loved seeing those desert sunsets. Nabbed a few pictures of ‘em, myself. I like the contrast between the newscast and the serene sky.
@gogen that film scared the crap out of me, gave me nightmares for years
oh, and remind me never to change the vehicle I drive to work in for fear of being labled a terrorist. god forbid we actually ever do anything DIFFERENT…this country, I ask ya
yikes. I of course had heard the story … but its a whole different thing hearing while driving along with you down that beautiful road right in the general area.

Well, the sky does look a bit The-day-after -ish. For you young guns, I’m referring to the movie from 1983.

Makes the sunset feel scary!
Really like this one; though it makes me fear for the southwest!

Go towards the light!
My gawd…what a sky. I’m moving to Phoenix before it blows up.
Brilliant.

Sky=Turner-esque, News=Simpsons-esque. Great juxtaposition.

Pretty sky.
The scene was set for a Jericho’esque mushroom cloud on the horizon.

This so captures all the layers of feeling and absurdity colliding in that moment. I really like it.

your expression is perfect. driving, annihilation, sunset. what is a human to do?
